Online Flash Decompiler

For people like me who doesn’t want to install decompilers (and even crack them) because of unwanted malwares, here’s the solution for decompiling your SWF files “online”.

I stumbled upon an online Flash decompiler, called ShowMyCode.

Probably, the only online service providing decompiling Flash, Java, .Net programs, and even Zend-encoded PHP files — not to mention QR bar codes.

Testing it out is as easy as:

  1. upload the SWF (or give link to the SWF you are trying to decompile — naughty, naughty ^^)
  2. provide answer to captcha
  3. click send
  4. enjoy reading decompiled codes :)

Yes, it only decompiles SWF’s used scripts — not the image/sound resources.

Haven’t tried it quite well. But it served its purpose on my search for online Flash decompiler.

(Last year, an online ActionScript compiler service came out. This year, an online decompiler. What could possibly come out next year? :-/ )

Compiling ActionScript from your browser

WonderFL is starting to gain popularity among Flash developer communities. It’s providing online service to compile your ActionScript 3 codes — yes, right from the browser.

What about external Flash APIs? Well, they have quite a few — including 3D APIs like Sandy and Papervision3D.

WonderFL does not just provide this online AS3 compiling, it also hosts a place for users/coders to exchange codes by “forking” someone else’s script.

Looking Into Obfuscating Programs

Security has always been a long-standing issue regarding the deployment of SWFs online. Since SWFs are generally “unsecure” given the right decompiling software, developers are left with the alternative of obfuscating code instead. But as has been the problem with obfuscation, the code is merely given a temporary mask to run itself in instead of attaining some real security.

Much has been written about the obfuscation issue, whatever program it may be. As the following article can attest, obfuscation can only go so far.

Phlashers theme is out!

The new Phlashers WP theme titled Phlashers United v0.3 is finally here. After several revision changes (mostly due to IE6’s amazing grasp of CSS), this theme is finally ready to replace the ugly one we used to have.

This is the first wordpress theme I’ve designed and I actually had lots of fun working on it. I’ll try to make more themes in the future should anyone think that this one is cool. If you want to help make this theme better, kindly report any bugs or browser issues you might come across. I’ll be posting revision changes below and credits for all bug reports.

Naz, no polls muna, the pollĀ  plug-in was responsible for wrecking the old db and it gave me nightmares. This theme isn’t widget-friendly yet, I’ll try to get that working once I get my superpowers back.

Theme: Phlashers United v0.3
Author: John Imbong (http://johnimbong.com)
Launch: January 2009
Description: Official Phlashers Wordpress Theme

v.0.3:

  • 100% cross-browser compatibility (IE6 too, but it can go to HELL for all I care)
  • integrated sprites to lessen all http requests
  • finalized comments template for IE6 compatibility
  • added a template hack to be able to view all archives as a Page and not as a List
  • removed the footer because IE6 just won’t cooperate

v0.2:

  • redesigned the markup to accomodate the liquid design for IE6
  • initial comment template markup
  • added the Log-In/Register fields to the sidebar for easy access (and a few other blings)

v0.1:

  • liquid layout design markup
  • full template designs excluding comments.php
